World authority on Port Wine revealed
Hammer are very proud and a little dizzy to have launched Richard's website. It was a labour of love and not without a few surprises. Photographing some of the world's greatest bottles of Port and Madeira, some dating back to the early 1900s was quite an eye opener. We didn't learn the full cost of the bottles we photographed until after we had put them under very hot studio lights - probably just as well, the one batch of 12 bottles we were told about came in at a cool £30K+. We didn't dare ask after that - not when the bottles dated back to 1800 and something : )
About Richard Mayson:
Richard Mayson is a writer, lecturer and consultant on wine, writing articles for Decanter and The World of Fine Wine magazine, award-winning author of five books on wine, Chair of the Decanter World Wine Awards for Portugal, Port & Madeira and the owner of a vineyard in the Alto Alentejo region of Portugal where he produces his own wine, Pedra Basta. Richard has written hundreds of tasting notes which are currently stored in files in his office, some of which provide a source for his books and many are now being published on his new website.
