what is e-commerce

E-commerce: Short for electronic commerce - the process of buying and selling over the internet.

Hammer Design offers 3 different levels of e-commerce:

1. A PayPal button website: Entry level system where the user is taken off to the PayPal website to pay and the security is run by PayPal.

Upside: Simple to implement, set up and utilise. Downside: Managing large numbers of products is difficult and options can be problematic.

2. A Protx (now SagePay) or World Pay Website: Medium weight e-commerce with varying different levels of control and security. Hammer Design offers off the shelf solutions to fully bespoke systems dependent on functionality required.

3. A fully hand written cart and payment system: The fully monty. Handwritten, server routines, shopping cart and security. Can do anything.
