A content management system is also known as a CMS - A CMS is a way of changing website content online. Usually changing, editing or archiving content such as text, pictures and in the good ones menus, navigation and page layouts.

They are usually accessed through your browser as you would normally view your website. Simple logins with a username and password give you access to a control panel.

Most modern websites now tend to have some form of a CMS.

Advantages of a CMS - they save you paying expensive designers - you can fiddle - you can access your website when you want from anywhere.

Disadvantages of a CMS - not many - they can be expensive if you are unlucky appointing your web development partner or demand too many controls.
