FAQs

Yukon Fox e-commerce software from Hammer Design

Q: Why did we write our own e-commerce software when there are so many packages on the market that can be adapted into a system?
A: The Chameleon CMS model had worked so well. A model where multiple clients 'asks' and continued development meant that everybody could share everybody elses input.

  • We found the other systems never seemed to do everything we wanted
  • We needed to fully integrate all aspects of our established and solid content management system with products and product information
  • We believed we could write something much easier to use, more stable and altogether better by writing it from the bottom up where we would have no design constraints
  • We felt that every client would require a bespoke shop anyway and it was going to be easier to adapt our own code than somebody elses

Q: What does the system cost?
A: Anything from five days of work upwards depending on your requirement.

Q: Can I migrate my existing website?
A: Yes. We specialise in database migration - the cost of migration is dependent on your existing system, but most small to medium sized business systems utilise fairly similar databases.

Q: Can I integrate my shop with accounts package?
A: Yes. We have bridging software and utilities for SAGE and a few other accounting packages already in place.

Q: Why have we called it Yukon Fox?
A: The Yukon is an inspirational area and a major river in northern Canada, we wanted a major river in the name as development is all about flow and is a continuous ongoing process. The Red Fox found in the arctic is an incredibly resourceful creature, hardy and cunning, resilient and stoic thriving in an incredible range of temperatures that come living above the Arctic circle. The only other Yukon Fox we knew was the legendary 'musher' who repeatedly won the 1000 mile Iditerod sled dog race across Alaska, Anchorage to Nome.
